Description
Waging a living: More than 30 million Americans are stuck in jobs that pay less than the federal poverty level for a family of four. Shot over a 3 year period, this documentary chronicles the day-to-day struggles of four low-wage earners to support their families. Jean Reynolds (nursing assistant) and Mary Venittelli (waitress) of New Jersey, Jerry Longoria (security guard) of San Francisco, and Barbara Brooks (student and single mother) of Freeport, N.Y. relate their dreams, frustrations, and accomplishments.
Description
Rosevelt's America: Rosevelt Henderson feels blessed that he is alive. A victim of violence and torture during the long civil war in Liberia, Rosevelt escaped to America with his two young sons, but was forced to leave his pregnant wife behind. Despite his experience as an engineer in Liberia he now works multiple jobs for less than $10 an hour, copes with unexpected lay-offs, and perseveres against heavy odds to bring his wife Frances and their new baby to America. This inspiring film shares the personal story of an immigrant struggling with poverty and prejudice to realize his own version of the American Dream - safety, a job and a united family.
Description
Unhitched: Tucked away in a cool redwood grove in Northern California, Faerie Ring Campground & RV Park is one of the areaś only options for low-income housing and the last stop before homelessness for many of its residents. Living in travel trailers that now serve as permanent homes, the people of Faerie Ring are grateful for the refuge and community it offers while they struggle to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. This short, touching film offers a glimpse into the economic edge-zones and gently expands our understanding of community.
